Preface
This song was written after my second or third trip to Ireland when I had learned
that some of my compatriots, particularly those with backsacks, few money and lots of resentment, behave in a completely inacceptable way complaining about the
beer price, German cars on Irish roads, new dwelling houses or industrial
estates in that country, whereas a young, well educated generation of Irish
were boosting economy to get out of what I called "pittoresque misery" Ireland
was "famous" for a generation before. So here are the lyrics (note the quotes):

You'd better be afraid of German
tourists since they will complain:

"Not poor enough, not poor enough,
the people are not poor enough.

Oh how disappointing
that I was not the High King

with Deutschmark in my pocket
I thought that I was God.

Not small enough, not small enough,
the houses are not small enough.

Not unemployed, not unemployed,

how could these people have a job.

Oh how disappointing
that I was not the High King

with Deutschmark in my pocket
I thought that I was God."

These guys have Heinrich Böll in mind
search for pittoresque misery:

"Not drunk enough, not drunk enough,
these gumps they are not drunk enough.

Oh how disappointing
that I was not the High King

with Deutschmark in my pocket
I thought that I was God.

Not fools enough, not fools enough,
the people are not fools enough

Education, education,
they have too much education.

Oh how disappointing
that I was not the High King

with Deutschmark in my pocket
I thought that I was God."

They do not want prosperity
for ordinary Irishmen:

"Prosperity, prosperity,
I don't allow prosperity.

Oh how disappointing
that I was not the High King

with Deutschmark in my pocket
I thought that I was God."

Much too showky, much too showky,
I hate them driving Mercedes.

Cultivated, cultivated,
the dooryards are too cultivated.

Oh how disappointing
that I was not the High King

with Deutschmark in my pocket
I thought that I was God."

They don't allow you industry
expecting only poverty:

"Too self-assured, too self-assured
the chicks are much too self-assured.

Oh how disappointing
that I was not the High King

with Deutschmark in my pocket
I thought that I was God."

Not convincing, not convincing
my Deutschmark is not convincing.

Salvation, salvation,

they don't need my salvation.

Oh how disappointing
that I was not the High King

with Deutschmark in my pocket
I thought that I was God."

Mother hide you girls away
them guys cadge any f..k for free:

"They're spurning, they're spurning my
irresistable erection.

Oh how disappointing
that I was not the High King

with Deutschmark in my pocket
I thought that I was God."

Ballerman for leftists
is what I had expected.

Next time I fly to Cuba
and get the girls for free.".
